Despite efforts to embed equity and inclusion in climate action, Canada’s sustainability field remains largely homogenous, dominated by a white, middle-class workforce. This lack of diversity limits the sector’s ability to address the full complexities of climate change in a comprehensive and inclusive way.

ASI’s lead researcher, Shagufta Pasta, will present findings from a research project examining the experiences of racialized women, trans-femme, and non-binary individuals in mid- to senior-level roles. The research explores organizational and sector-wide barriers and enablers that shape their career advancement and contributions, offering insights into the unique challenges and supports faced by this demographic.

How Workplace Giving Programs Can Drive Climate Action and Social Change

As companies strive to align their social impact with corporate values, workplace giving for sustainability and climate-focused initiatives has emerged as a powerful way to reinforce this commitment.

Employees increasingly expect their employers to prioritize sustainability and climate action, and offering donation matching to environmental nonprofits or encouraging volunteer time for climate causes is a simple yet impactful way to say, “hey, we care about what matters to you!”

This type of meaningful support goes beyond boosting morale and job satisfaction—it’s also a key factor in employee retention. In fact, a recent survey shows that 35% of Millennial and Gen Z workers say that giving programs directly influence their decision to stay with their current employer.

So, if you’re looking for a way to engage your team, increase loyalty, and contribute to a sustainable future, investing in workplace giving programs might just be one of the most impactful “perks” you could offer.
