Why Climate Stories, Not Just Statistics, Will Shape Our Future
Our latest Let’s Talk Leadership event, Leading Climate Action Through Storytelling, explored how stories, not just data, shape the way people connect with climate change. Speakers Ashoke Mohanraj and Alice Irene Whittaker reminded us that while facts inform, it’s stories that inspire action.
Here are a few takeaways that stuck with us:
An idea is only as good as how you communicate it.You might have all the science and data on your side, but that alone won’t inspire people to act. How you tell the story matters just as much as the facts.
Climate storytellers carry a big responsibility. Stories aren’t just entertainment, they shape how people see the world, what they notice, and ultimately what they care about.
Expand the stories you tell. Don’t just focus on people with wealth or privilege making “perfect” choices and don’t lecture about the "right" way to take climate action. Great storytelling embraces imperfection and shows how even small actions matter.
New Data: A Majority of Conservatives Support Taking Action to Address Climate Change
A new report from Re.Climate suggests that more conservatives support climate action than are opposed to it. Their big question? Why isn’t anyone talking to them about it?
The report shares some great tips for communicators like dropping assumptions and focusing on conversations that build common ground.
This year, the program received 76 applications, a testament not only to the well-received success of our first program offering in 2024, but also to the passion, creativity, and commitment of young people driving climate action across Canada.

Open Letter from Canada’s Nonprofits and Charities to Corporate and Philanthropic Funders
Nonprofits and charities are essential to Canada’s economy and communities, supporting people, creating jobs, and delivering vital services every day.
However, when funders suddenly change their priorities or cut funding with little notice, it can cause real harm. Programs get cancelled, staff lose hours or jobs, and the people who need these services are left without support.
This open letter calls on funders to adopt trust-based practices: multi-year flexible funding, clear communication, simplified reporting, shared data, and ongoing collaboration. Read and add your voice!
