This new funding will allow ASI to partner with Community Housing Associations to create an eLearning course that helps housing professionals understand how climate change is affecting nonprofit, co-operative, and social community housing and what they can do to keep buildings liveable, safe, and affordable for residents.  Read announcement What Does a Value Cost Your Organization?   Organizations often talk about values as commitments that guide their work. But what happens when a value is put to the test and following it becomes complicated, inconvenient, or expensive?   That's the question Joanna Buczkowska-McCumber explores in her Impact Brief newsletter. She looks at values broadly, but also at why companies name sustainability as a core value and then struggle when it becomes time to act on it.    Seldom, she says, do most greenwashing scandals start with a deliberate lie. More often, an organization sets a value without putting the systems, structures, and decision-making processes in place to support it.     She recommends creating clear rules for how company values should guide decisions. This can make values more than just words on a page and help organizations build trust and protect employees when those values are put to the test. Read article What Can We Learn from Lenny's Takeout About Climate Preparedness?   When extreme heat made working conditions unsafe, Lenny's Takeout, based out of New Brunswick, made the decision to close early and put employee wellbeing first. It was the right decision, but not an easy one. Closing early means lost revenue and disrupted operations.   And Lenny's Takeout isn't alone. Across Canada, many businesses are asking what climate change means for them and what they can do about it.   Our latest article looks at some actionable steps businesses can take to build resilience, without needing a major investment. Being aware of your risks and having a plan can make it easier to respond when conditions change.   Although this article is focused on New Brunswick, the lessons/steps are relevant to businesses across Canada.
